The release of vultures
Eindhoven Zoo is working with Green Balkans and Stichting Wildlife on the reintroduction of the vulture in Bulgaria. Several European vulture species, the griffon vulture, the bearded vulture and the monk vulture, were completely extinct in that country. Several griffon vultures from Eindhoven Zoo have since been reintroduced into the Bulgarian countryside.

Green Balkans Project
Green Balkans handles various conservation projects and is committed to maintaining and improving the populations of bearded vulture, monk vulture and griffon vulture, among others. This includes the release of vultures from zoos.
The organization further ensures that conditions in the habitats improve. They do this by, for example, increasing the number of breeding sites and reducing the dangers to the vultures by isolating electricity pylons and reducing the use of drugs for farm animals. They also provide Green Balkans education to the younger generation to create awareness.
Stichting Wildlife
The release of griffon vultures from Eindhoven Zoo is made possible in part by Stichting Wildlife. This foundation is dedicated to the protection of endangered animal and plant species at home and abroad, among other things by financially supporting nature projects and providing information in various zoos, including Eindhoven Zoo. Green Balkans is one of the projects financially helped by Stichting Wildlife.
