ZooSite Awards for Eindhoven Zoo and Safaripark Beekse Bergen

Eindhoven Zoo and Safaripark Beekse Bergen (both part of Libéma) have won prizes in the ZooSite Awards competition. Zoo visitors evaluate parks in the Benelux.

Eindhoven Zoo won the coveted award in the category "Cutest birth mammal" with the polar bear twins Nick & Simon that saw the light of day in November. Safaripark Beekse Bergen won two awards. In the 'Funniest Birth Non-Mammal' and 'Most Beautiful New Enclosure' categories, the Hilvarenbeek-based park received the most votes with the secretary bird and the elephants' enclosure that opened in 2015, respectively.

Polar Bears

For the first time in the history of the ZooSite Awards, two parks finished exactly equal at the close of voting. Eindhoven Zoo shared the award for Best Birth with GaiaZOO. Eindhoven Zoo trumped the Belgian parks Bellewaarde (two crested mongabeys) and Planckendael (Indian rhinoceros) in the final round with the polar bears together with the Limburg zoo and therefore won the award.

Secretary

Safaripark Beekse Bergen beat colleagues from Artis (armadillo lizards), Dierenpark Amersfoort (Egyptian land tortoise) and Avifauna (great year bird) with the special birth of the secretary bird.

AquaZoo Friesland

In the innovative category "Most beautiful new enclosure," Safaripark Beekse Bergen snatched the prize with its beautiful elephant enclosure from the noses of the other nominees AquaZoo Friesland (giant otters and, incidentally, also part of Libéma), Avifauna (Oriental Garden), Ouwehands Dierenpark (electric eels) and Planckendael (ring-tailed lemurs).

Ninth edition

The ZooSite Awards have been presented annually since 2007 by ZooSite: the largest, independent zoo information website in the Benelux.
