A seal has been born in Eindhoven Zoo!
In Eindhoven Zoo, seal Doka gave birth to a cub. Mother and her little one are doing well, although the first period is always exciting because the newborn seal must continue to suckle well and regularly.
Caretakers have not yet been able to determine the sex of the cub. Visitors can already admire the seal in the spacious seal enclosure.
Common seals are common in the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. After about nine months of gestation, one young is born and can swim immediately. After only four weeks, the extra fat mother's milk causes the cub to be twice as heavy as at birth. The suckling period lasts about four to five weeks.
