Elephant calf Rashmi discovers Eindhoven Zoo's outdoor enclosure for the first time

Asian elephant Rashmi, born on Feb. 5, was allowed to discover his outdoor enclosure in Eindhoven Zoo for the first time. The curious male ran towards the Mierlo Zoo's plain without any hesitation.

Recently, little Rashmi was able to get used to the other elephants in the group and the indoor enclosure. Meanwhile, the little calf is doing so well that the doors to the outside enclosure could be opened. Under the watchful eye of mother Htoo Yin Aye, Rashmi explored the plain, where after a few minutes he ran through the sand.

Rashmi will be going outside more often in the near future. "We try to open the door for a while every day, but we watch the weather conditions. It is important that it is not too cold and rainy for an elephant calf. Furthermore, the little guy also needs to rest enough of course, he sleeps a few hours every day during the day," said head of animal care Stephan Rijnen.
