Polar bear twins Eindhoven Zoo may go outside Thursday
Eindhoven Zoo in Nuenen is preparing for a very special event. On Thursday, Feb. 25, the polar bear twins born at the end of November will be allowed to go outside for the first time. They are two boys, by the way!
Proud mother Frimas and her two little guys stayed in the maternity home for a few months after giving birth. Indeed, after birth the little ones weighed only 400 grams, but by now they have grown considerably. Even in the wild, young polar bears stay in the den for a while and only leave when it gets warmer and they are big enough. On Thursday they will also see their father Henk for the first time.
Breeding Program
Back in 2012, Frimas gave birth to two healthy youngsters without any problems: Noordje and Pixel. They moved to another zoo, which gave Eindhoven Zoo the opportunity to continue the breeding program. Polar bears usually give birth to twins or triplets; very occasionally only one cub is born.
Names
The veterinarian recently determined that they are two boys, so Eindhoven Zoo is now thinking about names for the polar bear brothers. These will be announced at the special maternity party that will take place on March 20. That day there will be extra festive activities. Moreover, every twin who reports to the Eindhoven Zoo box office on 20 March will receive the second ticket for free (2=1 action) on presentation of their ID!
Photo Contest
Eindhoven Zoo is holding a photo contest starting Thursday around the little polar bear twins. The sender of the best photo will receive an annual pass.
