Newborn chimpanzee is named Kibibi!
The baby chimpanzee that Eindhoven Zoo welcomed exactly one week ago has been named Kibibi, which means 'little lady' in African-Swahili. More than 500 animal lovers voted for their favorite name for the chimpanzee on Eindhoven Zoo's website over the past few days.
The caretakers at Eindhoven Zoo are extremely happy with Kibibi as the name for the newborn chimpanzee. "It really is a fitting African name and Kibibi sounds nice and smooth! The little lady is doing super well, she is drinking well and mother Christa has already taken her outside for the first time early this week," says head of animal care Stephan Rijnen.
Photo Contest
Christa and Kibibi are now visible to all Eindhoven Zoo visitors both inside and outside. Anyone who manages to capture them beautifully in a photo can enter a special photo contest on Eindhoven Zoo's website. Every month a winner of the best or most beautiful photo of Kibibi will be chosen, who will receive a nice present and automatically has a chance to win a very special prize: helping with a feeding session at Kibibi when she gets to celebrate her first birthday next year.
Become an adoptive parent!
Due to the disappearance of their habitat and poaching, the distribution of chimpanzees is greatly diminishing and this unfortunately makes the chimpanzee an endangered species. Eindhoven Zoo is committed to chimpanzee species conservation with the help of Stichting Wildlife. Through this foundation animal lovers can adopt an animal in Eindhoven Zoo, including one of the chimpanzees, for as little as 90 Euros per year. For this, adopters get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the animals during the annual adoption day. The money goes entirely to Stichting Wildlife's projects.
