Hooray!!! For the first time, a lynx has been born!
At Eindhoven Zoo a lynx was born for the first time! The cub was born some time ago but mother Anne hid her little one very well for the first few days. Now Anne and the little lynx show themselves a little more often. The keepers have also been able to get closer and discovered that it is a female.
Update June 16 - the first images
The newborn lynx has now been given a name: Spinner! Since she still remains well hidden in her den, we used a GoPro to take a peek anyway. Check out the adorable result below!
Education
In lynx, it is common for the females to take care of the young, so father Bob does not interfere much in raising them. The suckling period lasts about two to five months, during which time the cub still remains in mother's safe nest. In total, the mother takes care of the cub for about 12 months before it can stand completely on its own two feet.
Habitat
Lynx live and hunt alone in nature. In their habitat in Europe, lynxes are the largest predators along with the wolf and brown bear. Despite not being much bigger than a sheepdog themselves, they hunt not only small prey such as hares and birds, but also deer and larger deer species. When they have caught such large prey, they can sometimes return to the prey as many as 6 times to be able to eat the whole animal. But they prefer to make things easy for themselves: they often pick out prey that is unattentive or weakened.
