Eindhoven Zoo happily surprised with birth of a camel!
A camel foal was born in Eindhoven Zoo this morning! Mother Faya is the proud mother of a female camel and both are doing well! The little one can already stand and has taken its first sips of drink from her mother. Mother Faya is now 10 years old and already has two cubs, which makes her a very experienced mother. Therefore, the caretakers do not expect any problems with parenting.
The father of the cub and Faya's other foals is 11-year-old camel Patriek. The youngster came into the world after a gestation period of 13 months and was able to walk almost immediately! This is important for camels in the wild so they can flee from predators as soon as possible after birth. In the wild, camels are unfortunately threatened by hunting and the disappearance of water sources.
Camels in Eindhoven Zoo
The newborn foal expands the camel enclosure to four camels. She stays in Eindhoven Zoo together with her mother Faya, her father Patriek and Kusuf, another young female born two years ago in Safaripark Beekse Bergen. Most camels move to another park when they are two years old, to provide new young there.
