Eindhoven Zoo started construction of chimpanzee enclosure

Lots of activity at Eindhoven Zoo, the Family Zoo. The zoo in Nuenen is currently hard at work building a large indoor and outdoor enclosure for a group of about eight chimpanzees. At Easter there are also plenty of extra activities at Eindhoven Zoo.

Construction of the enclosure for the chimpanzees, Eindhoven Zoo's newest residents who arrive in June from Safaripark Beekse Bergen, involves an investment of about 700,000 euros.

Nick & Simon

Park manager Martin van Hees is very pleased with the visitor numbers in recent weeks. "Those are looking good. This is of course due to the good weather and especially our young polar bear twins whom we named 'Nick & Simon' based on our name contest. The eponymous singing duo from Volendam reacted happily surprised. The singing Nick & Simon showed themselves honored and will probably visit their namesakes again."

On Sunday, March 20, Eindhoven Zoo hosted the big Nick&Simon Stall Party. Van Hees says: "That was another successful and well-attended event. We will make something fun out of the arrival of the chimpanzees as well. The enclosure will be located near the entrance square and will be attached to the indoor playground. From there, visitors will be able to look inside and playfully mimic the chimpanzees. In combination with the enclosure, the indoor playground will be completely themed and given a new name: 'Indoor playground Swing like a monkey'." Easter

Of course Easter is also celebrated in Eindhoven Zoo. Various animal species will be served a delicious brunch on both first and second Easter Day.
