500

Litters, so many have been counted together!

Little pelican

Little pelican they also call me. You wouldn't say that with my height of up to 1.55 meters! Among pelicans, I am one of the smaller species. You can recognize me by the pinkish color on my back.

Nesting

I live together with my peers. In one place, 500 nests were once counted together! The nests are made on the ground or in the trees. The tree often does not survive this, so many large nests on the branches. Often I use a nest several years in a row, but if the place has collapsed, I look for a new place.

Large throat pouch

Foraging for food I do with a smaller group of pelicans. And that big throat pouch? That, of course, is a handy landing net for fish! I also catch fish for my chicks, and when I return to them, they stick their heads deep into the back of my throat pouch to grab the fish.
