Green iguanas usually lay their eggs in the dry season. Then the eggs hatch in the wet season, when there is plenty of food. During mating season, the males turn an orange color. They conquer a territory of their own and fight with other males for the best spot. To entice the females, the males shake their heads up and down. When a female approaches, the male gently bites her neck.
Adult iguanas are found mostly high up in the trees. Here they look for a good spot where there is plenty of sun. They also find their food at the top of the tree. They eat fruit, leaves and insects. A female green iguana only comes to the ground to lay eggs.
