  • Nest-towers

A turret of mud with a flat top. Believe it or not, but that's my nest! I like to be with lots of other flamingos. Even when nesting. That gives lots of nest turrets, close together.

    Flamingo nursery

When the flamingo chicks are big enough to walk, they join together in the flamingo nursery. A couple of big flamingos like me are in charge.

    Pink feathers

The feathers of flamingo chicks are gray. Slowly, pink feathers grow in their place. Not until we are five years old are we completely pink. I also have some black feathers, but you only see them when I fly. When you find a pink feather on the ground and keep it at home, it becomes whiter and whiter. That's why we have never been hunted by humans to get the feathers. The word "flamingo" is an old Spanish word for "flamingo.
